Greetings!
Well, I usually only update this for major goings-on, so here goes.
From December 5th through the 28th, come see Annie at the RAPA Playhouse at 727 E. Main in Rochester! This heartwarming musical that probably everyone here has heard of will be playing five shows each weekend and I'll be playing at *least* two characters for every show but the ones on the 13th. (Which is my birthday.)
Yes, that's right, boys -- I'm a thespian. -rt

likewise, there is a statutory requirement for teachers to have maths, English and science GCSEs I have maths, English, chemistry, physics and biology. I don't have "science". my friends & I have a bet on that they'll make me sit the combined science exams > "well, the chemistry, physics, and biology are great, but you don't have any science." > OBSERVATION: Boy, these people are boneheaded. > HYPOTHESIS: These people are boneheaded because they have their heads up their asses, which requires thicker skull plating to avoid crushing what's left of their brains with their sphincters. > EXPERIMENT: Take a group of these people, call them the experimental group. Then, take a flat of tomato plants and call them the control group. Note how many boneheaded statements each group makes. > RESULTS: The experimental group made dozens of boneheaded comments, ranging from "This is a third party check, is that OK? What do you mean, express line?" to "What's 'chem-uh-stree'?". The control group produced reddish fruit that, when sliced, was mighty tasty on toasted bread with lettuce and bacon.

hoopy, you should post that to your LJ :) Hoopy should post to his LJ. :) he could just copy & paste that (with the addition of the bit about the control group) > if i posted that to my LJ, i'd have to mention a whole bunch of other stuff, like how i bought a house and shit.
Yeah, I moved. E-mail me if you want new address/contact info/etc. Housewarming party July 5th; soc.biters in town for motsscon are quite welcome. Bwahahaha, it's mine. -rt

I've been gathering pictures around work and home today and tonight, and have a gallery up at:
http://www.netacc.net/~rtucker/icestorm/icestorm.html
This'll be updated whenever I get a hankerin' to go take pictures, as long as I have Internet connectivity where I am. This will be up as long as the storm doesn't knock out all fiber optic cable to Bushnell's Basin. Feel free to point your disbelieving out-of-town friends at that page. :-) -rt

On Feb 13th, right as I'm getting ready to leave for Hamilton, I settled the pending litigation over the car accident. This means I have a new objective -- buy a house. This entry is the first in that particular run of ideas.
I'm discovering a few things about buying a house. Everyone seems to know a realtor, except for me. It's odd. I do have a few business cards though, and I'll probably be calling some folks over the next week. Which reminds me... I should pull the business card I got last night out of my pants pocket before washing them...
Anyway, I was going to go to the downtown library today to pick up a book or two on the whole process, but, alas, it's become cold, snowy, and icey. The State Police are closing on-ramps and advising people to not do anything involving driving. So much for that.
I did place some holds though...
For some reason, I know of Edith Lank, but am not sure from where or how. Oh well, we'll see what's up with those books.
I also flipped through the real estate listings in the paper. Yesterday morning, about 9:30am, the D&C called to offer me the Saturday paper for $.40/week more. She mentioned it has the home guide. I didn't have to think twice, and in fact, I walked to the paper box across the complex to pick up the paper. Wheeee. Anyway, I want a house on the southeast side of town, but have yet to find a listing for one... hrrm. Well, I'll continue on this course until a realtor smacks me down.
Breakfasttime. -rt

Greetings!
Thanks to everyone for your support... it helped out a lot. :-) I'm doing OK, and that's all I can expect, I suppose.
chrisbert asked about his age... well, nobody knows for sure. We adopted him as an adult cat, and the shelter didn't know for sure, so he just kinda got filed under "a few years old". That was about 10 years ago, I'm thinking, so my guess is about 15. Maybe younger, maybe older, but somewhere around there.
There was also a question about disposal of the remains... he is being cremated by the local humane society, and his ashes will be returned to me when it is completed. I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with them, but they will probably be scattered in Des Moines at a later date.
If you feel inclined to make some sort of financial or animal-related donation in his honor, The Humane Society of Rochester & Monroe County at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport NY 14450 would be the most useful place.
Thanks again! -rt

Yes, the rent check bounced because I was 37 cents short. Because it cleared 15 hours before my regular, biweekly deposit goes through.
Congratulations, folks; that's it, I'm switching banks. -rt

Today, at work, was the holiday party. Incredible amounts of food, and absolutely nothing happened. Well, I did pop a couple sticks of RAM in a server, and I reloaded the fax machine paper tray once. I also almost got a ticket, but Drew got it a couple moments before I did.
I have tomorrow and Wednesday off, and then I work Thursday, and then I leave for HAMILTON! Woo. :-) -rt

It warmed up outside. So, now everything is miserably melting outside. This time of year, I'd almost rather it stayed below freezing until springtime, just because the muddy slop is just kinda disgusting, especially when it refreezes at night. But, well, it can do what it wants to, I suppose.
In other news, I think I'm going to go grab some tasty Thai food for lunch. I also wish my bank's online banking worked on weekends. But, well, I understand:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

I'm selling some music via half.com, if ya'll are interested.
For a current inventory, see here.
I'll be adding stuff to there on occasion... I'm thinning out my CD collection and other various assets, since I'm getting tired of all the junk lying around. The stuff you see here is all the stuff I don't particularly enjoy having, but that doesn't mean you won't :-)
If you know me IRL and you're interested in buying stuff without it being shipped (e.g. delivered over dinner, etc), let me know via e-mail. If you buy via half.com and then want me to deliver it, tough noogies, 'cuz they automatically add shipping to the invoice and I ain't got nothin' to do with that. -rt

My doctor upgraded me to Prevacid for my random-exploding-stomach problem to see how that does... 'tis worth a shot, I suppose. I have the feeling I'm going to request a downgrade to Zantac once this is up, however -- Zantac worked mostly well enough, and Prevacid costs me $25/mo (compared to Zantac's $10). Perhaps that's just because the generic of Prevacid didn't appear to be available at my local pharmacy.
I am overall OK though. :-) -rt

So, for the last few days, I've had the old HBO theme song (you know, the one from the trailer with the big swirly "O") stuck in my head.
$0.50 later, I have it on CD for awhile.
Oddly, I now see there's 4 copies checked out... when I put a hold on it, there was only 1. Perhaps it was an al Qaeda Earworm Bomb. -rt

Read more details over here in veryfineredwine's quality entry. :-)
But yeah, I'm sick now. At the point where I'm on my second garbage can full of kleenex today. Blegh. Not sure where it came from, but it's Dawn's fault, 'cuz she got it first. :-) -rt

Quick, beany, and overall non-perishable.
INGREDIENTS:
Some pasta. Ziti works well, 'bout half a box. A can of black beans. Drain them, or you'll have gas so bad your dog will be offended. Or maybe it'll just be runny, I dunno. An onion. Or two. 3 cloves of garlic. Or more. Some oil, water, etc. Various spices; I use curry powder, garam masala, cayenne pepper, chili powder, pepper, salt, etc. A small amount of water, with an even smaller amount of corn starch, if you so desire.
Put on some water to boil. While that's happening, heat up some olive oil in a frying pan of sufficient size to hold the pasta. Dice up the garlic a bit and toss it in once the oil's nice and hot, and then dice up the onions and throw them in. Saute them around leisurely. Oh, and when the water's boiling, throw in the pasta and cook that. In the boiling water, not in the saute pan.
When the pasta's just this side of done, drain it, toss it into the saute pan, mix it all up, throw all the other stuff in, mix it up some more, and drop the heat a bit, lid the pan, and go off and do something else while everything melts around a bit. I like to smoke a cigarette and see what's on TV. Stir it when your cat uses the catbox and sounds like something is sizzling way too much (e.g. about midway through) and then go back and finish your cigarette.
Serves people. Serve with Bully Hill "Love My Goat" Red. -rt
